Wallpaper is sold in rolls with a stated coverage, and pattern matching wastes more than most people expect. A large repeat can push waste to 25%, so this calculator lets you raise the allowance before you order — running short of a discontinued lot is the expensive mistake.
Rolls of wallpaper needed, pattern repeat included.
Area = L × W Units = ⌈Area × (1 + waste) ÷ coverage⌉ Cost = Units × price
One roll covers about 30 sq ft per single roll. Units are rounded up because suppliers sell whole rolls, and the waste allowance covers cuts, mistakes and future repairs.
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| L, W | Room length and width (or wall length and height). |
| A | Area to cover, in square feet. |
| w | Waste allowance as a percentage. |
| N | Number of rolls to buy, rounded up. |
96 sq ft with 15% waste is 110.4 sq ft, so four single rolls. A large repeat would push it to five.

A US single roll is about 30 sq ft usable; a double roll about 57–60. Always use the figure printed on the roll.
Results use standard construction estimating arithmetic: volumes from measured area and depth, unit weights from published material densities, and code-referenced spans or clearances where the page names a code. Quantities are rounded up to whole saleable units and include the stated waste allowance. These tools are planning aids, not structural design, and do not replace a licensed engineer, a local code check, or a contractor's site measurement.
