Get y = mx + b two ways: from two points (slope computed first, then intercept) or from a known slope plus one point. Vertical lines can't take this form and are reported honestly.
y = mx + b from two points or from slope + point.
m = Δy/Δx, b = y − mx
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| m | Slope |
| b | y-intercept |
Through (0,1) and (2,5): m = 2, b = 1 → y = 2x + 1. Slope 3 through (1,1): b = −2 → y = 3x − 2.
