A projectile launched at an angle follows a parabola when air resistance is ignored. This calculator solves the general case, including a launch above the landing surface, and reports range, peak height, flight time and impact speed.
Range, peak height and flight time for an angled launch.
t = (v sin θ + √((v sin θ)² + 2gh₀)) / g R = v cos θ · t H = h₀ + (v sin θ)² / (2g)
Positive launch height increases both flight time and range. The horizontal velocity stays constant throughout.
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| v | Launch speed, in metres per second. |
| θ | Launch angle above the horizontal. |
| h₀ | Launch height above the landing surface, in metres. |
| R | Horizontal range, in metres. |
| H | Peak height above the landing surface, in metres. |
The projectile flies for 2.884 s, reaches 10.20 m and lands 40.77 m away.

Starting higher gives the projectile more time in the air, and the horizontal velocity keeps carrying it forward during that extra time.
Results are computed from the standard equations of classical mechanics. Unit conversions use the SI definitions published by NIST. Air resistance is ignored unless the calculator names a drag model.
