The SUVAT equations relate displacement, initial velocity, final velocity, acceleration and time when acceleration is constant. This calculator solves four common directions: displacement, final velocity, acceleration and velocity from distance.
Solve the five constant-acceleration equations of motion.
v = u + at s = ut + ½at² v² = u² + 2as
Acceleration must be constant for these equations to apply. For changing acceleration, integrate the actual acceleration profile instead.
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| u | Initial velocity, in metres per second. |
| v | Final velocity, in metres per second. |
| a | Constant acceleration, in metres per second squared. |
| t | Time, in seconds. |
| s | Displacement, in metres. |
Displacement is 0 × 3 + ½ × 2 × 9 = 9 m and final velocity is 6 m/s.

Only when acceleration is constant. A falling object with drag, for example, does not have constant acceleration.
Results are computed from the standard equations of classical mechanics. Unit conversions use the SI definitions published by NIST. Air resistance is ignored unless the calculator names a drag model.
