Pakistani universities usually ask for a 4.0 or 5.0 GPA equivalence rather than a percentage. Pick a direction, enter your number, and the calculator applies the common banded conversion used by HEC-style equivalences.
Convert Pakistani percentages to a 4.0 or 5.0 GPA and back.
| Your result as a percentage, 0–100. |
Percentage → 4.0 GPA uses the common banded table: 80–100% = 4.0 · 75–79.99% = 3.5 · 70–74.99% = 3.0 · 65–69.99% = 2.5 · 60–64.99% = 2.0 · 55–59.99% = 1.5 · 50–54.99% = 1.0 · below 50% = 0 5.0 GPA = 4.0 GPA × 1.25 GPA → percentage reverses the band, reporting its midpoint.
Universities and boards publish their own equivalence tables, and some treat A-Levels differently from HSSC. These bands are a widely used approximation — always confirm the table your target university applies.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Percentage | Your score as a percentage of the total. |
| 4.0 GPA | The equivalence on the four-point scale. |
| 5.0 GPA | The same result restated on a five-point scale. |
78% falls in the 75–79.99% band, worth 3.5 out of 4.0 and 4.38 out of 5.0.
The Higher Education Commission and individual universities publish equivalence tables rather than a single formula. They map an intermediate or A-Level result onto a 4.0 or 5.0 cGPA so applicants from different boards can be compared.
A 78% is not 3.12 (78 ÷ 25) under those tables; it is 3.5, because the bands compress the top of the range. That is why a naive ratio conversion consistently reports a lower GPA than a university does.

Because percentage ÷ 25 overstates strong results and understates weak ones. Banded tables — the kind HEC-style equivalences use — map each percentage range onto a fixed grade point instead.
GPA calculations here use standard unweighted or weighted grade-point arithmetic. The 4.0 unweighted scale and the common A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 mapping are used unless a page names a different scale. Weighted GPAs and country-specific conversions (for example Pakistan's 4.0/5.0 systems) are approximations for comparison, not official transcripts. Always confirm the scale your school actually uses before relying on a number for admissions or transcripts.
