On a GWA scale, 1.00 is the best grade and 5.00 is a failure — the opposite direction from a US GPA. Enter each course as its grade and units, and the calculator returns the credit-weighted average.
Credit-weighted general weighted average on a 1.00–5.00 scale.
| One per line or comma separated: grade then units — e.g. 1.25 3, 2.00 4. |
GWA = Σ (grade × units) ÷ Σ units US 4.0 equivalent ≈ 5.00 − GWA
Lower is better here: a 1.50 GWA beats a 2.00. The 4.0 conversion is a rough comparison only — institutions that require a US GPA recompute it from your transcript.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Grade | Course grade on the 1.00–5.00 scale, where 1.00 is best. |
| Units | Credit units for the course. |
| GWA | The credit-weighted average across courses. |
1.25×3 = 3.75, 1.50×3 = 4.50, 2.00×4 = 8.00. Total 16.25 over 10 units gives a GWA of 1.625, typically reported as 1.63.
Because the scale is inverted, a GWA that looks small is a strong result. Latin honours typically begin around 1.75 and tighten toward 1.20, depending on the institution.
Units matter: a 1.00 in a 5-unit major course pulls the average down more than a 1.00 in a 1-unit elective, which is exactly why the weighting is included rather than a plain average.

Yes. The Philippine scale runs from 1.00 (highest honours) down to 5.00 (failed), so a 1.50 GWA is stronger than a 2.50.
GPA calculations here use standard unweighted or weighted grade-point arithmetic. The 4.0 unweighted scale and the common A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 mapping are used unless a page names a different scale. Weighted GPAs and country-specific conversions (for example Pakistan's 4.0/5.0 systems) are approximations for comparison, not official transcripts. Always confirm the scale your school actually uses before relying on a number for admissions or transcripts.
