Middle schools rarely weight credits or publish a formal GPA. This calculator gives the straightforward average of your letter grades on the standard 4.0 scale, plus a tally of how each grade is counted.
A simple unweighted average for middle-school courses.
| Comma or space separated letters such as A, B+, C−. Credit hours are ignored. |
GPA = Σ grade points ÷ number of courses Grade points: A 4.0, B 3.0, C 2.0, D 1.0, F 0 (plus/minus adds 0.3 or subtracts 0.3)
Credit hours are ignored because middle-school courses typically carry equal weight. If your school does weight courses, use the cumulative GPA calculator instead.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Grade points | The 4.0 value of each letter grade. |
| Course count | How many grades you entered. |
Points 4 + 3 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 20 across 6 courses gives 3.33.
Middle-school grades are usually about readiness, not ranking. They feed placement decisions — which maths track, which reading group — rather than a competitive GPA.
That is why the average here is deliberately simple: no credit weighting, no class rank, no bonuses. It describes performance across a schedule of equal courses.

Usually not. Many issue letter grades or pass/fail marks, and GPAs typically begin in high school. A figure here is for informal tracking only.
GPA calculations here use standard unweighted or weighted grade-point arithmetic. The 4.0 unweighted scale and the common A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 mapping are used unless a page names a different scale. Weighted GPAs and country-specific conversions (for example Pakistan's 4.0/5.0 systems) are approximations for comparison, not official transcripts. Always confirm the scale your school actually uses before relying on a number for admissions or transcripts.
