Mark which courses are honors or AP/IB and the calculator returns two figures: the unweighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale, and the weighted GPA with the usual bonuses applied.
Weighted and unweighted GPA for honors and AP/IB coursework.
| One course per line or comma separated: grade then credit hours — e.g. A 3, B+ 4, A- 3. | |
| Points added to an honors course. Use 0 if your school does not weight honors. | |
| Points added to an AP or IB course. Use 0 if your school does not weight AP. |
Unweighted GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits Weighted GPA = Σ ((grade points + level bonus) × credits) ÷ Σ credits Typical bonuses: honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0
Bonus values are set by the school. Some schools award +1.0 for honors and +2.0 for AP; others weight nothing at all. Adjust the two fields to match your handbook.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Unweighted GPA | Grades on the plain 4.0 scale with no bonuses. |
| Weighted GPA | Grades with honors/AP bonuses added before averaging. |
| Honors bonus | Points added to an honors course, commonly 0.5. |
| AP/IB bonus | Points added to an AP or IB course, commonly 1.0. |
AP A (3 credits): 4.0 + 1.0 = 5.0 weighted, 4.0 unweighted. Regular B (3 credits): 3.0 both. Weighted GPA 4.0, unweighted 3.5.
Weighting levels the strategic incentive. Without it, a student could protect a 4.0 by avoiding honors and AP courses entirely. Adding a bonus to advanced courses makes the rigorous schedule the better choice on paper.
The bonus does not change the grade you earned — it changes how that grade is averaged with the rest of your transcript.

Yes — that is the point of weighting. A schedule full of honors and AP courses can produce weighted GPAs of 4.5 or higher, even though no single course exceeds 5.0.
GPA calculations here use standard unweighted or weighted grade-point arithmetic. The 4.0 unweighted scale and the common A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 mapping are used unless a page names a different scale. Weighted GPAs and country-specific conversions (for example Pakistan's 4.0/5.0 systems) are approximations for comparison, not official transcripts. Always confirm the scale your school actually uses before relying on a number for admissions or transcripts.
